Botanical Garden Bogor



 In 1811, when the Napoleonic wars in Europe, Indonesia at that time called the Dutch East Indies or Nederlandsch Indie, seized by British Belanda.ketika Napoleon fell from power (1815/1816), the leaders of European countries to make agreements, among others, about the division of powers .
In 1816, British Indonesia menggembalikan power into the hands of Holland. Wars that occurred in Europe led to the Netherlands experienced a decline, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to develop science, because they are straight and the glory years of the Netherlands is characterized among other things with science. To this dikirimlah C.Th.Elout, AA Boykens and GAGP Baron Van der Capellen, to Indonesia and Dr. Casper George Carl Reinwardt as advisors.
On 15 April 1817 sparked the idea to establish Reinwardt Botanical Gardens submitted to GAGP Baron Van der Capellen, Commissioner General of the Dutch East Indies, and he finally agreed to the idea Reinwardt. Botanical Garden was established in addition to the Governor-General at the Bogor Palace on 18 May 1817, conducted the first erection peg which marked the founding of the Botanical Gardens, named 'Slands Plantentiun te Buitenzorg'. This marks the founding of the Botanical Gardens with the establishment of Dutch control the commencement of Biological science, especially botany in Indonesia are organized.

After independence, in 1949 "Slands Plantentiun te Buitenzorg" was renamed the Division of Natural Inquiry, later became the Central Institute for Nature of Inquiry (LLPA) led and managed by the Indonesian nation, the first director was Prof. LPPA. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo. At that time LPPA have 6 children institutions: Bibliotheca bogoriensis, Hortus Botanicus bogoriensis, bogoriensis Herbarium, Treub Laboratory, Museum and Laboratory Investigation Zoologicum Bogoriensisi Sea. For the first time in 1956 led the Botanical Gardens which is held by the Indonesian people to replace J. Sudjana Kasan Douglas. For the development of plant collections in accordance with the existing climate in Indonesia, the Bogor Botanical Gardens established branches in several places, namely:

Cibodas Botanical Garden (Bergtuin te Cibodas, Hortus and Laboratory Cibodas) in West Java, the extent of 120 hectares with an altitude of 1400 m, was founded by Teysman 1866, for the collection of upland crops wet temperate and tropical regions of sub-tropical plants. 1891 estates are equipped with the Laboratory for Research on flora and fauna.

Purwodadi Botanical Garden (Hortus Purwodadi) in East Java, founded by Van Sloten 1941. The extent of 85 hectares with a height of 250 m, for the collection of lowland plants, dry climate of the tropics.

Kebun Raya "Eka Karya" Bali Bedugul-founded in 1959 by prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo. The extent of 159.4 ha with an altitude of 1400 m, for the collection of upland crops dry climates.
